Magic Hour
A moment to unwind in the city.
A short walk from Kyoto Station, Magic Hour pairs cardamom gin and tonics, ginger-and-pepper Moscow mules, and house-made fresh chocolate with a deep selection of whiskies in an easygoing late-night setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Thoughtful twists set the tone across the cocktail list at Magic Hour, from a house gin and tonic fragrant with cardamom to a Moscow mule built on vodka infused with ginger and spices, poured ice-cold into a copper mug. Pure, slow-frozen ice made from Mie Prefecture natural spring water is sourced from an established Kyoto ice merchant, lending clarity and balance to every pour and keeping the drinks light and clean through the finish.
Alongside the drinks, a signature plate of house-made nama chocolate blends several varieties of cacao with a lighter cream, striking a restrained, bitter-sweet note that sits comfortably beside spirits. Savory bites are just as measured, spanning moist Spanish cured ham, salumi, a proprietary mix of roasted nuts and persimmon-seed rice crackers, and a colorful spread of dried fruits.
The back bar holds plenty of depth for comparative tasting, lining up single malt Scotches and bourbons alongside coveted domestic bottlings such as Yamazaki and Hakushu, bottles from Japan's newer craft distilleries, and an extensive array of craft gins. Perched on the 4th floor near Kyoto Station and open nightly until 1:00, the bar offers both counter perches and comfortable sofa seating for a relaxed close to the evening.
